Winners of the seventh Hakeem Academy Annual Competition for innovation in healthcare technology

Electronic Health Solutions (EHS) announced the winning projects of its Seventh Hakeem Academy Annual Competition, the leading creative and innovative healthcare-technology competition in Jordan. The final phase of the competition was held on Thursday, August 4th, 2022 at the Jordan Gaming Lab headquarters (one of King Abdullah II Fund for Development programs) at the King Hussein Business Park.

“PNIN” project won first place, a mobile App and a device that allows patients to replace standard crutches by providing them with the stability and support they need in their legs. This device targets multiple sclerosis patients who suffer from imbalance and difficulties walking.

In second place came the “Arabic Sign Language” project, an application that translates sign language into Arabic using a mobile camera. This project uses artificial intelligence solutions to empower the hearing impaired and reduces the gap between them and society.

And finally “Draw It” project won third place, by presenting a tool built to understand children’s psychology. It targets children aged 5 to 12 and interprets their emotions by offering them different shapes of the human body in form of indicative drawings that will reveal important parts of the child’s personality and psychological state. Draw It analyzes and understands the underlying feelings of the child with no need for any verbal expression through an artificial intelligence algorithm.

The chosen winners in the competition that specializes in targeting innovative ideas and projects leveraging technology to elevate the health sector, were selected by a panel of diverse judges choosing between a final 10 solid projects, which qualified to the final stage out of 42 initial projects.

The competition judging committee consisted of Dr. Muhammad Abu Sharia, an expert in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Jordan, Mr. Nidal Khalifeh, Innovation Manager at Jordan Ahli Bank, and Dr. Tareq Mansour representing the Ministry of Health, Ms. Dana Shalaby Networking and Knowledge Exchange Team Leader and Eng. Mohammad Sharaf, Director of IT Infrastructure at EHS.

The CEO of Electronic Health Solutions, Eng. Omar Ayesh, congratulated the winners, expressing his pride in the advanced level of the projects and ideas presented by the contestants from various levels and disciplines during their participation in this year’s Hakeem Academy competition. These projects presented proposals and solutions to the challenges facing the healthcare and health informatics sectors. Ayesh hopes that these projects will be executed to effectively improve health care levels in the Kingdom and contribute to attracting more pioneering projects that serve the health sector.

Engineer Ayesh said, “The Hakeem Academy competition which seeks to give Jordanian youth the opportunity to showcase innovative ideas, receives a great annual turnout of participants paving their path towards entrepreneurship, all of which will support the development and innovation of the health informatics field in the Kingdom, being one of the main pillars and concepts  EHS is built upon.

The competition winners will receive monetary prizes presented by the Jordan Ahli Bank and an incubation period at Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship which is designed to help them develop entrepreneurial skills and business strategies to elevate their projects into a startup phase. as well as training and mentorship opportunities at Electronic Health Solutions.
